System enables "secure" touch screen - system proven a million times over

With its proximity and gesture control solution Elmos offers an intuitive and distraction-free operation for automotive cockpits. Particularly in view of the most recent jurisdiction in Germany, for the use of human-machine interfaces (HMI) it is mandatory to be as user-friendly as possible. The Elmos system in combination with touchscreens has been in use for almost ten years at renowned automobile manufacturers and thus contributes to increased safety and comfort in millions of cars.

Elmos is a pioneer in gesture recognition for vehicles and the world's no. 1 in this application. One reason for this is the best ambient light immunity available on the market and the automatic system calibration.

The intuitive control is integrated by means of the Elmos ICs E909.21 and E909.22. Both components have been specially developed for use in larger automotive displays. The ICs are a perfectly matched solution for precise interaction with the cockpit user interface. In addition, numerous functions have been integrated to simplify system and sensor design: The devices are therefore a "plug & play" solution adapted to the application.

The following actions are recognized: Approach, wipe, Air Slider(TM), zoom in and others. The object detection and motion evaluation operates in real time based on a cost-effective infrared technology.

The basis for the ICs is the established HALIOS(R) principle. It is the only process working with true optical compensation. This enables almost complete neutralization of parasitic physical effects from the receiver, ranging from ambient light effects to very good temperature stability, far beyond the capabilities of individual components.
