At the Internationale Handwerksmesse trade fair in Munich, Alphaform AG - Europe's leading industrial 3D printing service provider - received the Federal Award for Outstanding Innovative Achievement in the craft trade. The award was presented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in recognition of the digital-based electroforming method that was brought to production maturity in 2014. This method enables Alphaform to manufacture ready-for-use sheet metal parts for prototypes and small-scale series more quickly than ever before. Electroforming is based on long-used metal coating technology that enables a homogeneous metal coating to be applied to 3D-printed plastic parts. With the electroforming method, the plastic is removed again, resulting in metal parts that display unique intricacy and quality. In her laudation, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Iris Gleicke, explained: "With their services, the award winners showcase their skills and make an important contribution to this modern and progressive craft technique." The federal award for outstanding products, services and methods was inaugurated in 1989 and serves, among other things, to accelerate the application of new techniques in the craft trade.
